2010 Central City Partners Forum III: Visualising the Experience

The third 2010 Central City Partners Forum was held on Tuesday 21 April, and in spite of it being just before Election Day, was fully booked. With the topic “2010: Visualising the experience”, the morning began with a presentation by Luyanda Mpahlwa of MMA Architects.

An advisor to the LOC on the building of stadiums in South Africa, Luyanda addressed the Forum in his personal capacity having attended both the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany as well as other events such as the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean and gave an informative talk on the logistics behind Germany’s stadiums as well as our own.
The second presentation of the morning was given by Chris Bruwer, 2010 Marketing Manager, City of Cape Town, who outlined both the workings of the Host City Decoration Programme as well as the Host City Event Supporters programme. In particular, he presented ways in which the City of Cape Town planned to communicate with the public, and how the 2010 team would be looking to a number of events to be held between January 2010 and the World Cup to maximise the City’s profile.

Andrew Boraine concluded the morning with a presentation of some of the possible ways in which the City could experience and interpret the 2010 event visually. This included ideas on how FIFA may brand the city during the event, how the fans themselves would help ‘decorate’ the city in their festive supporters garb and how Cape Town could follow the examples of cities in Germany during 2006 – thus creating a unique brand for ourselves for 2010 and beyond.
